You bet your a** I remember that MTV contest. I didn't win it though. :(

Having spent all my youth in MN and OH and my adulthood on one of the two coasts, I always say "You can take the boy out of the Midwest, but you can't take the Midwest out of the boy."

One friend honestly said to me "Isn't Ohio just a bunch of farmland?" This was a woman in her 40's, and it was just last year!

I think John Mellencamp is often overlooked for just how strong of a songwriter he is. He captured ALL of the Midwest on those four albums.
